Face to Face

Kristina Kuester-Witt
September 20 – November 2, 2014

The exhibition “Face to Face” features new mixed media work by German born painter and printmaker Kristina Kuester-Witt. This playful, figurative series about the human condition depicts hopes, dreams, fears or inner conflicts. She uses a transfer technique called paper lithography to transform elements of her oil-paintings, mostly faces, into prints. Then she paints or draws around them creating a new tension due to the contrast of delicately painted patterns on “raw,” unprimed wood-panels or brown printmaking paper. This contrast also reflects the fragility or violence of emotions and ultimate concerns of our existence like loneliness, freedom or mortality come to mind. She likes for her imagery to be simple and subtle but at the same time addresses a world of complexity and obscurity.
