This course introduces the student to wire weaving and textile techniques for creating beautiful jewelry. We will explore a variety of weaving techniques and methods of working with fiber and metal wire. We will be incorporating traditional textile techniques from base weaving, looping and spool knitting to coiling, wrapping and braiding into one of a kind pieces. You will learn ways to achieve different effects in weaving, such as varying the widths of wire used in structure, the use of contrasting metals or the introduction of fiber into your wirework. The addition of stones, beads and found objects will be shown to add further complexity to your work. Projects will include a woven cuff bracelet and a wire woven bezel. This course will be both technique and project based. Students are encouraged to bring their own stones, cabochons objects, etc., for possible use. Stones can also be purchased from the instructor. Additional supplies will be discussed at the first class. No experience necessary but those with wire working skills will find them extremely helpful.
