In this short introductory metalsmithing course we explore contemporary jewelry applications for wire as we create simple chain and rings. In the process of designing and constructing a few cool chains or rings, students gain soldering skills and become familiar with some of the three-dimensional possibilities of metal wire. Working in brass, copper and silver we will cover soldering, forging and forming, roll printing and the creation of basic wire findings. With a simple hand held butane torch soldering set up, most techniques can be continued at home. No experience necessary.
