The Academy Model of Figure Drawing in the classical medium begins first with mastering the use of charcoal, which is the Gold Standard. This foundational program is for every painter interested in learning how to be free when working with the human figure. Figurative drawing with this gold standard media is a fine art craft. When charcoal is used well, the velvet black strokes with its rich gray scales spark together with the light of paper, where the drama of figure comes alive. You will make soot sing! Students will have a live model to work from. Learn through a step-by-step system of drawing the figure will be from dot, line, shape, and form. Students will use soft, medium and hard charcoal pencils, as well as vine and compressed sticks. From this classical foundation students are encouraged to find their own path as an artist. Through demonstration in the charcoal craft in all its science and poetic effects as it relates to the figurative sketch, study and master drawing, as well as preparatory drawing or cartoon for painting on canvas and panels. This workshop is level 1 in his “drawing Academy” program where students will be prepared to enter into other levels of mastering the classical mediums for figure: conte, pen and ink, and wash used in all school of art classical to modern.
